LandyCampers in The Times and The Telegraph
There is something particularly satisfying about seeing a LandyCampers trip described by someone who has taken the keys, set up camp and experienced it for themselves.
Over the years, we have put a great deal of thought into what makes a camping holiday in a classic Defender work well: the equipment, the storage, the bedding, the preparation and the time we spend showing guests how everything works. Seeing that experience reach readers of The Times and The Telegraph has been a proud moment for our small family business.

A rooftop-tent adventure with The Times
On 26 April 2024, The Times published Jane Mulkerrins’ first-person feature, “Morning campers! My big rooftop tent adventure”.
Jane took a LandyCampers trip to the Suffolk coast with friends and dogs. Her account follows the experience of travelling and camping in a Defender, including setting up the tents and spending a blustery weekend near Southwold.
“everything you could need (and plenty that you probably won’t) for a proper wilderness escape.”
It is a personal account of the holiday, with the pleasures and practical realities of sleeping under canvas.
“she’s [Fern's] been the ideal way to mark the start of spring, and has reignited my wilderness wanderlust.”

Featured in The Telegraph’s British summer breaks
On 20 July 2026, LandyCampers appeared in Emma Thomson’s Telegraph Travel article, “Last-minute summer breaks to book in the British Isles”.
The LandyCampers section highlighted the convenience of hiring a Defender with the camping setup already packed, including rooftop tents, bedding, a fridge, cooking equipment, furniture and off-grid power.
“It’s the easiest way to explore the UK’s wildest corners without the hassle of packing.”
One of my photographs was also chosen as the lead image for the article, with another showing Fern’s two-tent setup within the LandyCampers section, which was particularly cool!
Planning your own LandyCampers trip
If either feature has left you curious about a Defender camping holiday, there are two Landys to choose from.
Waffle is our classic Defender 90, with two seats and a rooftop tent for two. She suits couples and solo travellers; dogs are not permitted in Waffle.
Fern is our Defender 110, with five seats and two rooftop tents. She offers more space for
families and friends, and welcomes dogs when the Dog Pack is added. Dogs stay out of the rooftop tents.
Both come with bedding, cooking equipment, a fridge, camp furniture and off-grid power. Before you leave, we take you through the Defender and camping setup in person, and we can help with route and campsite ideas.
You collect your Landy in North Essex, near Stansted Airport, and return it to us at the end of your trip. Our minimum hire is three nights, and our 2027 calendar is open.
Check dates and availability, or send us your preferred month, approximate number of nights and who is coming. You do not need a finished itinerary to start planning.
