What’s Included With A Hire From LandyCampers (And Why There Are No Surprise Add-Ons)

When you’re comparing adventure camper hires, the headline:
Price doesn’t always tell the full story.
Some companies advertise a tempting base rate… then add charges for essentials like bedding, cooking kit, chairs, tables, power, or even the rooftop tent add-ons you assumed were standard. Not us.

With LandyCampers, the price you see is the price for a fully equipped adventure. No ticking boxes for basics. No “gotchas” at checkout. The only 'extras' are dog pack (covers our extra time cleaning, and gear like a dog hammock for save travelling!), an extra insured driver, or the Outset Towbar Tent (an entire extra 'rooftop tent at ground level')
Below is exactly what’s included with every hire, and why that approach usually works out better value (and a much smoother trip).
The LandyCampers promise: fully equipped means fully equipped
Our Defenders go out with the same core setup every time because it’s the only way to guarantee a premium experience.
That means:
You don’t need to own (or buy) extra camping gear
You don’t need to “know what to add” during checkout
You don’t have to compromise comfort to keep costs down
It’s simple: your base price includes the real essentials for off-grid camping - done properly.

What’s included in every LandyCampers hire
1) Rooftop sleeping setup (the big one)
Every LandyCampers trip includes a proper rooftop sleeping setup so you can arrive late, pop the tent, and be in bed fast.
Included as standard:
Top spec Thule rooftop tent setup
Sleeping comfort kit designed for UK shoulder seasons and chilly nights (thermal liners in colder months, to keep the warmth in with you!)
A setup that’s been refined over years of real guest feedback
(If you want, we can add a short “how fast it is to set up” paragraph here with a simple 3-step list.)
2) Bedding & comfort (not an add-on)
This is where “cheap” hires often start creeping up in price.
Included as standard:
Sleeping bags / bedding setup appropriate for the season
Sleeping mats for comfort and insulation
Extra warmth options for colder months, such as heated pads or sleeping bags (we kit the Landys for real UK camping, not just sunny weekends)
3) Cooking kit you can actually use
You shouldn’t need to bring your own kitchen to go camping.
Included as standard:
Full cooking setup (so you can cook proper meals, not just emergency pasta)
High output Primus stove (AND GAS - as much of it as you might need for your length of trip, plus a bit more)
A real fridge - not a coolbox with a PC fan that needs new ice daily, a compressor fridge just like at home!
Pots, pans, utensils and the basics that make cooking easy
Plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs
Washing-up essentials
BBQ and firewood (so cheap, yet so often an 'extra')
This is one of those areas where “optional cooking kit” add-ons can add up fast elsewhere - so we simply include it.
4) Camp life essentials (the stuff that makes it comfortable)
The difference between “surviving outdoors” and actually enjoying it.
Included as standard:
Proper camp seating + table setup
Lighting (torches, head torches, lanterns, and more torches!)
Practical storage that means everything has its place, everything is easy to access, and no unsightly plastic boxes to be found!
5) Off-grid friendly power & practicalities
Defender camper hire should feel like freedom, not “battery anxiety”.
Included as standard:
A high capacity battery designed for real off-grid camping, specced to the length of your stay (longer trips need more battery capacity!)
Large solar panels to charge up

6) Genuine care from a small family business
Really, this is the bit that keeps guests coming back year after year - we do this because we love it, and we want our guests to love it just as much.
We could easily skimp on gear (our bank account would thank us!), half-arse the handover demonstration (leaving you wondering how all the kit works, rather than only leaving once you're confident you can get to camp and get set up yourself), or wish you good luck when you head off on an adventure and be done with you until your return (when we're really on hand at the end of the phone pretty much 24/7 for even the 'simplest' question you have on the road)
Why we do it this way (and why it’s usually better value)
There are three big reasons:
1) It makes budgeting easy
You know the real cost upfront. No spreadsheet. No “hang on… we need chairs and bedding too.” - this makes booking easier for you AND us.
2) It makes the trip smoother
You’re not juggling a random mix of add-ons and missing essentials when you arrive at your first campsite.
3) It keeps the experience premium and consistent
We can only deliver a 5-star experience if the kit is consistent, complete, and tested.

A quick way to compare camper hires fairly
When you’re looking at other options, check:
Is bedding included?
Are chairs + table included?
Is a full cooking kit included?
Is off-grid power / lighting included?
Are there “must-have” add-ons at checkout?
Am I paying extra for gas / firewood?
If the answer is “no” to a few of these, it’s worth doing the real totals before deciding based on headline price.
FAQ
Is LandyCampers suitable for first-time campers?
Yes. The whole setup is designed so you don’t need specialist knowledge — we walk you through everything at handover.
Do I need to bring any camping gear?
No. Our guests just need to bring clothes, food, and a sense of adventure.
Is the kit the same for every trip?
The core setup is consistent, and we adjust certain comfort items seasonally so it stays genuinely usable all year. BUT, if you feel the cold and your trip is mid-summer, just tell us, we'll make sure to pack the winter bedding, for example
What’s the difference between your optional extras and other companies’ add-ons?
Our optional extras are true upgrades (dog pack, extra driver, extra tent). EVERYTHING else is already included.
